Dyslexia

Specific Learning Needs Diagnostic Assessment (Dyslexia)

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which primarily affects reading and writing skills. However, it can affect other skills as well as or instead of these.
Dyslexia is actually about information processing. Dyslexic people may have difficulty processing and remembering information they see and hear, which can affect learning and the acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia may also impact on other areas such as organisational skills.
It is important to remember that there are positives to thinking differently. Many dyslexic people show strengths in areas such as reasoning and in visual and creative fields

The Assessment

The assessment is for students with persistent literacy difficulties across reading, writing, spelling and comprehension. This assessment will provide classroom teachers with clear recommendations on how to improve literacy skills, ensure access to the curriculum and can provide crucial evidence for extra time or other access arrangements.
The assessment will take around 2 to 3 hours, where the participant will be asked to complete 6 different tests, looking at underlying ability, cognitive processing, phonological processing and literacy attainment.  A report will them be completed on the assessment to determine the outcome.
