We prescribe medication for Children and Young People Aged 6 years – 18.5years
Quick Summary
First appointment is face-to-face (60 mins).
Regular 3-4 weekly reviews to find the right dose (titration).
6 monthly reviews once stable.
Prescriptions are dispensed by CloudRX our pharmacy partner, who post to your address.
Medication and prescription costs are extra and paid to CloudRX.
If your GP agrees to shared care, they may take over your ongoing prescriptions.
Before you book
Ask your GP about shared care
It helps to know in advance. Please ask:
“If Amethyst sends a shared care agreement, would you accept it and prescribe long-term?”
This will help you plan any long-term costs.
Gather Health Information
You will be required to provide us with a recent GP summary (from your GP surgery or NHS App).
For remote appointments, you will be required to provide printouts/evidence of physical health results (blood pressure, pulse, height, weight) from your GP or pharmacy if you have them.
Keep your details up to date
Tell us right away if your email, address, or phone number changes.
Step 1: Initiation Appointment
Face-to-face, 60 minutes with a specialist clinician.
We review history and check physical observations (blood pressure, pulse, height, weight).
We talk through medication options. If medication is suitable, we send a prescription to CloudRX, our partner online pharmacy, who post it to your home address.
If there’s a significant family history of early cardiac symptoms, you’ll need an ECG before starting medication. Additional charges apply for the ECG.
What you do:
Book and pay at the time of booking. Click here for prices.
Provide your GP summary, and where requested, printed evidence of health results (or arrange these with your GP/pharmacy, or one of our drop-in clinics).
Bring verifiable identification of the child/young person i.e. passport
Step 2: Titration (finding the right dose)
Appointments every 3-4 weeks, usually for 3–6 months (about 30 minutes each).
We adjust dose / switch medication if needed.
Prescriptions are issued via CloudRX and posted to your address.
Please tell us about benefits and any side-effects.
Step 3: Shared Care with your GP
Once stable on medication, we write to your GP to request shared care (so your GP can prescribe).
Acceptance is your GP’s decision.
If your GP accepts, they’ll issue prescriptions going forward.
If your GP does not accept, we can continue your care privately with 6-monthly reviews.
Step 4: Ongoing Monitoring
A 45-minute review to check effectiveness and safety.
We may recommend a repeat Qb test (computer-based attention test) to check how well the medication is working (additional charges will apply)
If your GP is not doing shared care:
Please contact us at least 7 days before your next prescription is due so there’s time to arrange it.
Missed appointments (DNA)
If you don’t attend without 48 hours’ notice, a DNA fee of £75 applies.
After two DNAs, no further prescriptions will be provided until reviewed.
After your 19th birthday
If you still need medication after turning 19, we will support with transition to a partner service (either NHS or private provider) for ongoing care.
